Poison Ivy Description:
Poison
ivy is a plant in the family Anacardiaceae. The name is often
spelled "Poison-ivy" to indicate that it is not a true Ivy or
Hedera. It is a woody vine that is well-known for its ability to
produce urushiol, a skin irritant that causes an itching rash for
most people.

Poison Oak
Description: Poison Oak is a
shrub-like form of poison ivy generally found at elevations under
4,000 feet. The chemical in poison oak is urushiol and it is found
in all parts of the plant. After touching it, the poisonous oil
absorbs into the skin and the result is a rash. A reaction can
occur by touching any part of the poison oak plant. Though
pets are immune to the rash, a pet who has made contact with the
plant can spread it to humans. When a rash appears you will not
spread the rash by scratching, despite popular belief.
