Diet & nutrition can affect thyroid function.

Dietary considerations.
Knowing which foods and drinks most impact thyroid functioning is key to correcting hypothyroidism. Take the following guidelines into consideration:

A) Drink plenty of distilled, purified or spring water. Many experts believe that the chemicals in home tap water may promote low thyroid functioning. Consider investing in a cost saving faucet mount water purifier such as one made by brita or pur. Keep a refillable bottle of water near you at all times throughout the day.

B) An excess of caffeinated or alcoholic beverages, or sugary foods may all contribute to weakened thyroid functioning, including low thyroid. You're probably aware of which substances you are abusing. Do you notice any sluggishness or other hypothyroid symptoms after a period of high intake? If so take steps to correct this.

C) A poor diet can result or prolong some cases of hypothyroidism. This does not necessarily mean the quantity of food, but the quality. If you're not eating enough fruits and green leafy vegetables or other natural foods, and you're eating too many processed foods, you may be at risk. Iodine-rich foods, such as fish, may be beneficial. Take steps to correct your diet and see if your hypothyroidism improves. At least you'll do your body good anyway.

 Herbal thyroid support.

There are several natural herbal remedies which have shown great promise for overall thyroid health. Adding any of the following may promote a healthier thyroid:

A) In addition to overall thyroid support, ashwagandha extract also appears beneficial in treating hypothyroidism.

B) The herbs siberian ginseng & spirulina may also help regulate overall thyroid function.

C) Iodine helps thyroid functioning, therefore daily sea kelp weed would be strongly recommended as it is a huge source for iodine.

D) Many people may prefer an all-in-one herbal hypothyroidism blend such as ThyroidAssist. There is also an all-in-one thyroid health blend called Thyroid Complex, which shows good promise. In addition, some believe hypothyroidism may be due to an insufficient immune system, so taking an all-in-one immune system supplement may also be beneficial.

E) To treat depression symptoms associated with hypothyroidism, take St. John's Wort, up to 2,000mg. a day (allow 4-8 weeks to see results).

 Ideas for overall thyroid health.

Consider controlling hypothyroidism by using a natural alternative to prescription drugs, or by adjusting your lifestyle. From natural herbal remedies to supplements there are many other choices to combat hypothyroidism. Here are some suggestions:

A) Purchase a non-prescription specialty product such as Thyrin ATC™, Thyrovarin™ , & Thyrotril™ all of which support weight related healthy thyroid functioning and may help hypothyroidism without many of the typical drug induced side effects.

B) Taking daily natural supplements may prove very beneficial for healthy thyroid functioning. In this case you'll want to add any of the following into your daily regimen: B-Complex, Selenium, Vitamin-A, Vitamin-E, coconut oil, the amino acid L-Tyrosine, the mineral Zinc & plenty of vitamin-C.

C) If you don't already do so, start exercising more. Anything that is currently under-performing in your body can benefit by not being sedentary. Walking, biking and swimming are all excellent low-impact activities that may help boost thyroid activity. Try to exercise at least 15-30 minutes every other day, but preferably every day.

Does hypothyroidism run in your family genes?

Hypothyroidism often runs in family, frequently along gender lines.
Ask affected family members as many questions as possible to what does & does not work for them.  The more you educate yourself about low thyroid, the better off you'll be long term. One good way to gain better knowledge is to purchase a good book on hypothyroidism.
