How to speed the healing of bruises.

All of the following tips may help affect how quickly your bruise heals or how severe your bruise becomes:

1) Immediately after the wound has occurred, wash the area with soap and water, then apply an ice pack or an ice wrap.

2) Keep the limb elevated (especially right after the injury) especially if the bruise occurred below the waist or on the arms. The bruise will most likely still develop, but it should be less noticeable and more pain free.

3) About 2 days after the bruise occurred, start compressing the area with a hot or warm cloth 3 to 4X per day, 15 minutes at a time. Repeat until the bruise disappears. Or consider purchasing a heat pack or heat wrap.

Your diet can make a difference.

Dietary considerations.
Having a good diet helps speed healing of bruises. Follow these tips:

A) Go out of your way to drink plenty of water during the first few days of healing.

B) Eat fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin-C especially dark leafy green veggies.

C) Foods that have extra bioflavonoids are beneficial to treat bruising. These include broccoli, green peppers and lemons.

D) Do not eat excessive garlic during the duration of the bruise.

 Can dietary supplements help?

You can add supplements to your diet regimen to help speed healing. All of the following may help:

A) For quick healing, take the enzyme bromelain as needed.

B) For short term use (less than 2 weeks) use Zinc each day until healed (use significantly less thereafter).

C) A good daily dose of Vitamin-C is quite effective to treat bruising.

D) For slow healing, people who bruise easily or chronic bruising, citrus bioflavonoids or quercetin should be tried for 3 months (and stopped if no progress is seen).

What about natural herbs or homeopathic remedies?

Many people report great success using traditional, natural remedies. Consider the following:

A) Use the herbal liquid form of St. John's Wort to help heal bruise wounds more quickly. Apply a few drops of this herbal liquid along with organic oil or cream and spread on the bruise area.

B) Neem and/or marshmallow extracts are another natural way to heal bruises faster when liquid or cream version is applied topically.

C) You can speed the duration of healing by taking gotu kola extract when bruise first occurs, unil duration of the injury.

D) Another remedy is to crush parsley and apply it to the affected area until visible bruising disappears.

E) Homeopathy is another natural approach to treat bruises. Bumps 'n Bruises can be safely used by both kids and adults to treat areas of bruising, swelling and pain.

A few final thoughts about bruises ...

A) Consider whether to discontinue the use of aspirin to treat your bruise.
For some people, aspirin actually makes your bruise appear worse and might even contribute to its cause. If you suspect this, substitute aspirin for some other safe medication.

B) If you're too self-conscious of how your bruise appears, try to cover them with makeup. A less effective form of covering up is to use a correct size bandage - find a bandage that comes in a similar color to the tone of your natural skin color.
