Bronchitis
preventative measures. By observing the following you can
reduce the frequency, duration or intensity of bronchial episodes:
1) Keep your surroundings
comfortable and consistent. Always use
air conditioning and heating at a comfortable level. Avoid going
from hot to cold (and vice versa) - this includes exposure to
outside air.
2) Buy and
use a decent
humidifier in your home. Adding moisture to
your air is a good preventative measure. Use your humidifier with
essential oils -
eucalyptus oil and
tea tree oil work especially well
during flare-ups.
3) Avoid dust - this
includes when cleaning your home. Consider wearing an
allergy mask
or asthma mask whenever possible.
4) Exercise regularly, especially consider low impact aerobic
exercises (walking is quite beneficial). Bronchitis symptoms may
diminish with healthier lung function. Exercise expands lung
capacity making breathing easier.
5) Take warm or hot showers more frequently than normal,
especially during times when you're more vulnerable to bronchial
symptoms. Warm showers help clear mucus which results in easier
breathing.
6) Bronchial
patients are more vulnerable to catching colds or the flu or picking
up another infection so stay away from sick people.
Home
& folk bronchitis remedies.
A) If bronchitis results in
chest muscle pain, use an anti-inflammatory medication such as
aspirin or ibuprofen.
B) Gently yet firmly tap (or have someone else do it) the front
and back of your thorax. Use 2 fingertips or the side of your hand.
This practice will loosen some phlegm in your lungs.
C) Add salt
to warm water and gargle as needed. This should reduce
mucus in the throat. About 1 teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of water
should be sufficient (too much salt may make the taste less
appealing yet too little may be ineffective. Experiment).
Importance
of a good diet.
Dietary changes. The following suggestions may help ease
symptoms, length and severity of bronchitis episodes:
A) Drink fresh
cabbage juice as much as possible.
B) Pay
attention to foods that affect mucus production. Consuming garlic,
onions, cayenne pepper or chicken stock help reduce mucus while the
following products should be avoided because they create mucus:
citrus, dairy goods, bananas and products containing wheat.
C) Acute
bronchitis sufferers need to drink plenty of fluids, especially
water.
D) Foods known
to cause allergic reactions should be avoided such as eggs, milk
etc... In addition consider reducing intake of foods that use
preservatives, additives or food coloring.
E) Consider
eating almonds regularly. Almonds are said to have a positive
long-term on certain respiratory conditions such as bronchitis.
Can
supplements and/or minerals help bronchitis symptoms?
Supplements and minerals.
These can help and should be taken with a
good diet. Consider the following:

Echinacea
