Making your home more 'asthma proof.'

Take the following steps to make your home more asthma-friendly:

A) Buy a good central home air filtration machine.

B) If you have curtains be sure to wash them regularly.

C) Use a damp cloth to dust your furniture. To clean floors use a damp cloth.

D) While doing housework, wear an asthma mask.

E) If pet dander is an issue, avoid contact with the pet as much as realistically possible.

F) Keep windows and doors closed.

G) No smoking in your home.

H) Remove as much carpeting as possible. Go with bare floors.

I) When it's hot run your AC as much as possible. It may cost more, but you'll feel better getting a break from the heat and your asthma.

J) Buy a humidifier, and use it during hot days. Keep the humidity as close to 30 to 35% as possible. If you don't have a humidifier, try home steam therapy. Go to your bathroom but DON'T turn the fan on. Fill up your bathroom tub with hot water (but don't go in the tub!). When the tub is full your bathroom should be full of steam. Now get on your knees and safely lean over with your head over the hot tub water. Breath in the steam. Remain in that position until your asthma symptoms subside. When your finished, empty your tub and consider taking a shower (especially if you were sweating during this experience).

K) Avoid overuse of personal care products, especially ones that are highly fragrant or contain excess chemicals. Use your common sense.

How about your bed & bedroom? What can you do ??

Reduce asthma attacks by taking care of your bed and bedroom. Observe the following:

A) Consider eliminating carpets and go with a bare floor. Carpets collect all kinds of asthma-causing substances.

B) Wash your pillows monthly and your bed sheets every week.

C) Buy a dustproof plastic mattress cover and make sure it's airtight

D) If pet dander is a problem keep your pets from entering your bedroom.

E) Consider buying a smaller, room size air purifier even if your home already has one.

 Some interesting folk remedies.

Consider some folk remedies.
During an asthma attack, many people report success trying some of the following:

A) One steam related asthma remedy to clear bronchial passages is to boil water and mix in some caraway seeds. Breathe in the steam until your asthma symptoms improve.

B) Loosen up phlegm during an asthma attack by rubbing and massaging a mixture of mustard oil and camphor on your chest.

C) Use honey. During an asthma attack, get a jug of honey, hold it under your nose until your breathing becomes easier.

D) When inhaled as aromatherapy, sage essential oil may lessen asthma symptoms.

E) The herbal extract chickweed has long been used as a traditional folk remedy.

 Natural asthma supplements.
Compliment a good diet by adding supplements to your daily regimen. Before buying check the label to make sure the supplements are 'hypo-allergenic.' Here are some suggestions:

A) The mineral magnesium and Vitamin-C are both known to relax & improve bronchial tube performance. Extra Vitamin-C may also be taken at least one hour before workouts if exercise-related asthma is a problem.

B) Lung inflammation can be minimized with a daily dose of Vitamins B6 & B12.
