The importance of exercise as it relates to pain.

Get good exercise but stay within your boundaries
.
Consult a doctor before starting. Doing too much will make your aches & pains actually feel worse. Try to exercise 15-30 minutes at least every other day. Benefits of regular exercise include:

A) Reduction of muscle degeneration and your overall rate of aging.

B) Natural release of mood enhancing chemicals in the body which will help keep you from being depressed. A healthy mind creates a happy body, and a happy body is less likely to complain (and therefore notice) aches and pains.

C) Promotes a healthy heart including lowering blood pressure & cholesterol.

D) Keeps your joints strong and more flexible. This especially aids arthritis pain.

E) Improves immune function. A strong immune system keeps you from getting sick which prevents sickness-related aches.

F) Increases bodily energy & endurance.

G) Exercise promotes weight loss. Carrying around less weight means less impact on bones & joints and eases arthritis pain.

H) Exercise is said to increase longevity.

 Reduce pain by managing stress.

Find ways to manage stress.
When distressed a body is generally more rigid & tense and a person may become more psychologically 'tuned-in' to the sensations of pain. To relax, you may want to try the following:

A) Get enough sleep at night. Everybody's sleep needs are different but most people need at least 7 hours per night. When you're tired you're always thinking about how you feel. When you're tuned in negatively like this, you're also more likely to be tuned-in to your aches and pains. A good night of sleep (followed by a good breakfast) goes a long way.

B) Find a way to take a nap during the day. Sometimes a quick 15 minute nap is all you need. Naps are especially good for tension headaches.

C) Take a nice easy walk or other exercise (see above).

D) Take a hot bath, use a hot tub or sauna. Heat is both relaxing and a well known pain reliever.

E) Try an alternative form of stress management.

Diet, nutrition & pain relief supplements.

Eat plenty of fresh fruit & veggies and consider weight loss. Extra weight puts excess pressure on bones and joints, especially in the legs and lower back. Over time, the constant pounding may lead to serious health problems. In addition to a good diet, please consider the following supplements:

A) Take extra Vitamin E supplement for joint pain. Vitamin-E can also be rubbed in and around joints when used in liquid form.

B) On a daily basis, consider taking extra Vitamins B2, B6 & B12, or use a good B-Complex supplement which combines all the B vitamins in one pill. B Vitamins may help with headaches, chronic pain or nervousness.

C) Pain can also be treated with the amino acids L-tyrosine & L-carnitine.

D) For osteoarthritis, use chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine. However there may be some side effects with these so consult with a professional use with a bit of caution.

E) Aches & pains resulting from exercise can be controlled by taking bromelain.

F) Take a good daily multi-supplement, or make sure you take all the main vitamins - A, B, C, D & E. These will all help chronic pain.

 Herbal pain relief.

Though usually only providing mild relief, herbs can be used in a variety of forms (extracts, oil or aromatherapy) to help gently ease pain away. Unlike drugs (or other supplements) most herbs are inexpensive and have few, if any, side effects. Consider the following:

A) Use the herbal extracts boswellia, kava kava or white willow bark as a natural substitute to OTC pain killers.

B) The liquid form of St. John's Wort herb, peppermint oil or eucalyptus oil each may relieve mild muscle aches & pains when applied topically.

C) Lavender essential oil can help ease the pain & inflammation resulting from insect stings or bites.

D) For lower back pain, rub on mustard seed oil for instant relief.
